Fingertip skin disorders:Skin problems at your fingertips??
Fingertips are known to be very sensitive.Over time, and due to some environmental conditions, we do find the skin on our fingertips affected.
Some of the fingertip problems commonly reported are:
Eczema:
Blister formation on the finger tips, initially under the surface and as the blisters develop, they rise to the surface. While there may not be any liquid
in these blisters, the skins peels off and over a period of time, the fingertips have a wrinkled look.It isn't painful, but if a small object is pressed against the fingertip, say a pen cap, the impression stays for a very long time.
This is a typical example of eczema. All the symptoms mentioned above are pointing to eczema and the most unfortunate part about eczema is that the condition is considered chronic. This effectively means, that there is no cure for it, but medications can definitely reduce the effects of eczema. The root cause, like most skin diseases, is very difficult to ascertain.Moisturisers, steroids or even coal tar have been known to be used for treating this condition. The problem about using steroids is that they tend to thin the skin and can cause more problems than they solve.
Digital ulcers:
Painful ulcers on the fingertips or toes can be caused by systemic scleroderma. These are called digital ulcers. Treatment of digital ulcers must be taken from dermatologist and followed diligently. Careless approach to digital ulcer care might result in gangrene and perhaps, amputation.
Another form of fingertip skin disorder causes numbness of the finger tips and skin peel-off. It could be due to eczema and in most cases creams or medicines given to treat eczema are good enough. However, this cannot be considered sure shot remedy for such numbness type of problems. A thorough dermatologist check may be necessary to treat this disorder.
While it will always seem convenient to pick one of those over the counter drugs to treat any kind of finger tip skin disorder, it may not the prudent choice, always. If the condition persists, proper medical advice must be sought.
